Fund Roads Not Zoning

Commissioners have budgeted $108,000 — with another $55,000 proposed. Not to fix your roads, but to hire consultants to write zoning regulations that restrict what you can do with your own land.

Tell Commissioners to stop spending your tax dollars on zoning you don’t want and the county can’t afford!

Cherokee County Commissioners

Here's where your money is going

Cherokee County commissioners have approved spending on an out-of-state landscape architecture, planning and urban design consultant agency called “Confluence” to develop new zoning regulations, despite overwhelming opposition from residents.

That’s $163,000 of your tax dollars — not for road repairs, not for services — but to fund a regulatory process most residents never asked for and don’t want.

County Commissioners are following a plan that would:

Burden local taxpayers even more after property taxes have already risen ~24% since 2020

(Kansas Department of Revenue, Real and Personal Property Value and Tax Summary, Cherokee County Value and Tax, Accessed 3/9/26)

Take rights away from landowners, forcing them to ask government permission to use their own land

Block new economic development that could strengthen the county

Leave major funding gaps for roads, bridges, and law enforcement

Tell Commissioners to fix the roads. Support economic growth. And stop taking away your rights.
